Electric Motor: This is typically the core component of the kit. It can be installed in the front or rear wheel hub, or it can be a mid-drive motor that powers the bike through the pedal system. Motor power is usually measured in watts, ranging from 250W to 750W or more.
Battery: The battery powers the motor and is usually mounted on the frame of the bike. It’s often a lithium-ion battery, chosen for its high energy density and longevity. Battery capacity is measured in ampere-hours (Ah) or watt-hours (Wh), which determines how far you can travel on a single charge.
Controller: This electronic component manages the power flow between the battery and the motor. It regulates the motor’s speed and responds to input from the throttle or pedal-assist system.
Throttle: This component allows you to control the motor’s power manually, usually by twisting a grip or pressing a button on the handlebars. Some kits include a thumb throttle instead.
